Personal Profile

In my eight years as a software developer, my career has spanned many different development paradigms, and I have gained experience with a large number of Operating Systems, Database Management Systems, Integrated Development Environments and programming languages. I have worked both on my own and as part of a small team, and find both enjoyable; however, I do find the dynamics of teamwork to be particularly invigorating. I have a particular passion for mentoring and derive a lot of satisfaction from helping junior developers enhance their skills and achieve their full potential.

I pride myself on my communications skills, and find it very easy to build good working relationships with people of all different walks of life and educational backgrounds.

The IT industry is constantly producing new technologies and API's. I have found that my education has prepared me well for this, and I am able to pick up new skills quickly and learn and apply new development techniques with relative ease. I am also a member of the Melbourne .Net user group, and a recognised developer in the msdn connection program, both of which I find gives me a good feel for trends within the IT industry.

History of Employment

Profitlink Consulting

309 Burwood rd Hawthorn 3122

http://www.profitlink.net.au

Period of Employment: 10-Nov-2000 till present

Profitlink Consulting are the developers of handheld sales and time billing software, notably MYOB PocketAccounts (see http://www.myob.com.au/products/pocket_accounts/index.shtml). I was employed because of my experience with MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes) and ODBC to develop the synchronisation logic between MYOB accounting software and the Palm OS handheld device. This involved development of a Palm OS conduit and other desktop utilities, including windows based configuration tools, for the very first version of MYOB PocketAccounts. After the successful release of MYOB PocketAccounts, the company focused on creating many other solutions such as customisations of their handheld sales software, integrated palm and web forms tools, web based reporting tools and database applications. In 2003, Profitlink Consulting decided to release a version of their software for the Pocket PC (see http://www.mobileezy.com). This exposed me to programming using both the .Net and .Net Compact Frameworks.

As the most experienced developer in the team, I quickly assumed a senior role where I have been involved in all aspects of the software development life cycle from the functional requirements specification, product design and implementation through to quality assurance, commercial release and after sales support. I have played a major role in all software solutions that Profitlink Consulting has developed since starting in November 2000. This gives me a holistic understanding of the processes involved in producing high quality software for either off-the-shelf style software packages for mass distribution or one-off custom projects for individual clients.
